is cbn the new cbd?

In 2018, the popularity of CBD took off.

It went from being an obscure compound extracted in peoples’ basements to supplement/nutraceutical/food ingredient of the year — fast.

In case you didn’t know, we at Pachamama are huge fans of CBD. But we also recognize that CBD is far from the only amazing cannabinoid in hemp! That’s why this blog will be all about CBN, a super-interesting cannabinoid that might just become the next CBD.

what is CBN?

CBN (cannabinol) is a cannabinoid, which places it into the same family as THC, CBD, and many other cool compounds.

CBN is also one of the hemp plant’s most impressive active ingredients.

Part of it is CBN’s chemical makeup. While most cannabinoids share the same chemical formula, CBN has a slightly simpler, smaller structure than CBD. And this little difference gives CBN quite different effects. (More on those differences later!)

How to use CBN as a sleep aid

Like CBD, CBN seems to be a potent adaptogen.

The things it helps your body adapt to, however, are different. CBD tends to regulate several important biological processes and help your body deal with stress — CBN, on the other hand, seems to regulate the nervous system and instill peace and calmness.

Translation: CBN may be hugely helpful for sleep.

One older study found that CBN improved sleep much like THC did...without the intoxicating side effects, of course.

And while more research still needs to be done, the concept is there. CBN’s activation of your brain’s sensitive CB1 receptors means it could help calm the overactive mind and set the stage for better sleep.

If you’re ready to make a comeback this year

Is CBN the future?

Hey, it’s not a bad question to ask. Experience CBN for yourself and you’ll probably see why!

CBN has several benefits over ‘regular’ CBD, after all. It’s more powerful, more potent, and slightly more uplifting. In some ways CBN provides the best of both worlds, providing some of THC’s psycho-activity without being too intense.

Only time will tell if CBN continues to gain popularity. For now, all we can say for certain is that those who try CBN are loving it!
