what is cbd?

We’re glad you asked! As CBD continues to expand in holistic-health markets worldwide, this interesting little cannabinoid packs an enormous amount of power. The cannabis plant produces over 400 compounds, CBD being one of them. These compounds are referred to as cannabinoids, and unlike THC, are non-psychoactive, not resulting in a high after ingestion.

CBD may be beneficial in supporting the body through a variety of health ailments and concerns. One of the most interesting facts surrounding CBD is that it relies on the body’s endocannabinoid system to intelligently restore balance wherever it lacks in your body. CBD binds to receptors in the endocannabinoid system, which aids in regulating all other bodily systems — from the immune system to the endocrine system and beyond!

why we're different

“Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.”
— Albert Einstein

Quality is at the core of our focus, and our CBD. Pachamama is the only CBD on the market using single-origin hemp and an air extraction method. But what does that all mean, and why is it so important?

Let’s talk about veggies. When you’re looking to get the most nutrients from your veggies, you’ll choose to steam them rather than roast or pan-fry. Why? The longer the veggies are exposed to high temperatures, the more nutrients are depleted. When you steam them, you’re slowly releasing vital nutrients that are unavailable in the vegetables raw form, and cooked-away by other methods.

Extracting CBD from hemp works the same way as releasing nutrients from veggies. Hemp should only be gently and briefly exposed to heat to preserve the integrity of its nutrients. If it’s overexposed to heat, the product will be weak in potency, with hemp that has been stripped of all of its healing potency.

With hundreds of hours spent working closely with experts and local farmers, we uncovered the perfect method to get the most out of our hemp. In a single step, we extract, activate, and refine by feeding our hemp into a heated air stream where cannabinoids and terpenes are instantly evaporated from the plant material. Then, the undesired plant material is separated from the air stream while cannabinoids and terpenes are evaporated and condensed into a highly-effective, bioavailable extract. This gives the CBD max-potency and quality in each dose.

The W’s: Where, When, Why & How

Now that you’ve got your tincture in hand, I’m sure you’re wondering how much and how to dose.

Ultimately, this relies majorly on your body and will require some experimentation to gain its feedback. Our mantra is to “start low and go slow.” So, we always recommend you to begin with a single-dose dropper, and assess your needs from there! It may be wise to track your daily dosages and to note the changes as they correspond with how much you take. Also, CBD is non-addictive, and safe to consume even in large doses. Your tolerance will naturally rise as your CBD levels increase in your body, and it’s ideal to keep CBD as part of your daily wellness regime to reap long-term and long-lasting benefits.

Though there are several methods of ingestion when it comes to CBD, ingesting tinctures by placing a dropper under the tongue been proven to be the most effective for delivery and efficacy. This method allows for immediate uptake into the bloodstream and is simply complete by holding the liquid from the pre-measured dropper under the tongue for 30-60 seconds before swallowing.

How Long Will It Take to Kick In?

Similar to proper dosing, this will depend on your unique biochemistry and the amount of CBD you ingest. How you take your CBD is important too--- for example, swishing the liquid in your mouth before swallowing may improve absorption by increasing surface contact.

Placing a dropper full of CBD under the tongue the quickest delivery method, taking anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours to kick in. The reason being is due to a gland that sits under the tongue, absorbing the CBD and quickly taking it into the bloodstream. This method also bypasses all digestive processes, hence the quick delivery.

to eat, or not to eat

Unfortunately, there’s a lot of conflicting information online surrounding advice on consuming food with CBD. This may have some of you confused, but in simplest terms, you could take your CBD on an empty stomach or with food. However, some specific foods may be beneficial to increase absorption over others.

All of our tinctures contain trace amounts of MCT oil. Since cannabinoids are fat-soluble, the fatty acids found in the MCT oil act as a “carrier oil” to transport the CBD into the bloodstream, and allow for best absorption.

You may choose to eat or ingest your CBD on an empty stomach. However, eating some healthy fats will aid in absorption and increase the overall amount of CBD in the body. Other healthy fat sources you may want to try when taking your dose include avocado, coconut oil/milk/cream, and cheese.
