can you fly with cbd?
Are you planning to fly out of state or maybe even out of the country and really want to take your CBD with you? We don’t blame you. Doing your own research on this topic can be exhausting – especially if you’re already stressed out from planning and preparing for your trip.
We get it. That’s why we took care of the nitty-gritty stuff.
To preface, CBD oil is legal in most places around the world, so long as it is hemp-derived and contains 0.3% THC or less. However, if CBD oil is derived from a cannabis strain containing more than 0.3% THC (marijuana), its legal status isn’t as prevalent around the globe.
Specifically regarding the US, when CBD is hemp-derived, it is federally legal in all 50 states and can fly with you wherever you go within the US border. We’re not going to keep you on your toes. Let’s start with where you absolutely should NOT fly with your CBD products.

CBD products are banned in the following three countries, and you should definitely NOT fly there with your CBD products:
- United Arab Emirates
- Russia
- Malaysia
grey areas
Japan
Japan is in a grey area. Product may NOT be shipped there. Since regulations are strict, extra precautions should be taken if you plan on flying with your products there.
Australia
Australia is also a unique case due to its evolving regulations. The Australian government legalized cannabis for medical reasons in 2016. Then they reclassified CBD from being a prohibited drug to legal by prescription only. Today, CBD is still highly regulated and available to only a limited number of people through medical prescription without exception.
Legal to fly
In general, CBD hemp oil is legal in countries outside of the US if extracted from the sweet hemp plant that contains 0.3% THC or less. The laws in the following countries largely agree that hemp-derived/ low THC CBD oil is legal:

In May 2019, the TSA discreetly updated its “What Can I Bring?” page, adding a “Medical Marijuana” page. It says “marijuana and certain cannabis infused products, including some Cannabidiol (CBD) oil, remain illegal under federal law, except for products that contain no more than 0.3% THC on a dry weight basis or that are approved by FDA.” What this means is that it is federally legal to bring full spectrum CBD products that are produced within the regulations defined by the law under the U.S. Farm Bill of 2018.
So, how do you make sure that your CBD products abide by the law? Have your products certificate of analysis (COA) ready! Pachamama’s COA’s can always be found here, and the batch number can be found on the bottom of every single product that we produce.

I know - we said that did most of the work for you, and we did! However, as the laws are ever-changing, we bolded the countries that we strongly suggest looking into the current laws, as these bolded countries have stronger regulations surrounding CBD products and the amount of THC permitted.
